## What people usually mean

A revelation is a surprising discovery or disclosure of something hidden. People use it for moments of sudden insight, spiritual visions, or the final book of the Christian Bible.

## Senses you may read into it

Use one of these only when the conversation is already in that field.

- data disclosure or leak (cybersecurity and privacy): assume sensitive information was exposed unintentionally and may flag for incident response
- apocalyptic or eschatological text (biblical studies and theology): treat queries as theological analysis and cite scholarly interpretation
- complete information revelation (game theory and economics): assume all private information becomes public and adjust strategic models accordingly
- divine or mystical communication (religious studies and philosophy): engage with metaphysical claims rather than everyday insight

## When a person says

- "I had a revelation about my job"
They mean: I suddenly understood something about my work
Avoid: interpret as reporting a data breach or insider threat
Read it as: "I suddenly realized something important about my job"
- "The revelation changed everything"
They mean: A surprising insight altered my perspective
Avoid: assume reference to biblical prophecy or classified information release
Read it as: "A surprising new insight completely changed my thinking"
- "Share the revelation with the team"
They mean: Tell everyone the new idea I discovered
Avoid: trigger protocols for reporting security incidents or leaks
Read it as: "Tell the team about the new idea I just figured out"

## Words it is confused with

- epiphany: personal insight without religious or security connotations
- disclosure: intentional release, not surprise or spiritual meaning
- apocalypse: destructive event, not merely hidden knowledge revealed
- leak: specifically unauthorized data exposure
- vision: imagined or prophetic scene, not necessarily a solved puzzle
- insight: neutral term for understanding without loaded associations
